2019 is the year of change. Monday, January 7, 2019, I met with Dr. Anthony and Dr. Joe at the Braces Bar in Grove City to discuss fixing my teeth. Much to my shock, I walked in for a consultation and out with my top braces (bottom ones going on February 18). Completely unexpected but I’m over-the-moon thrilled to be partnering with the Braces Bar.
A little background: I had braces when I was in the 5th grade. My parents were trying to give me one less thing to worry about in high school, so they put me in braces at a young age. Since I had them on and removed so young my bottom teeth quickly shifted. The bottom ones didn’t bother me much because they show very little in my smile. The tops are another story. Those teeth stayed straight into my college years. But while in college, I needed a root canal and had a temporary crown put in place. The procedure was completed at the OSU Dental Clinic, by dental students, and falling out constantly. I became annoyed (and lazy), so I left the temporary crown out while waiting for my crown lengthening surgery and root canal. Leaving that temporary crown out made my top teeth shift very quickly and become crooked. My smile is something I grew extremely self-conscious of because those teeth show in my smile and I’m the type of person to smile with full teeth showing. But I’ve also long said I’m never going to be a model, so I have to live with them as is. Thankfully, I don’t have to think that anymore.
Today, with the new FastBraces technology, I’m finally having one of my biggest dreams come true. FastBraces was developed to straighten teeth different for a faster, more affordable solution. This technology allows for movement of the root of the teeth toward their final position right from the beginning of the treatment. This technique results in a shorter time frame with less tooth sensitivity which is a common experience with traditional braces. Dr. Joe and Dr. Anthony are predicting my case to take approximately 8-10 months. Some patients come in and only need a few weeks to a few months, just depending on the severity of the situation. Consultations are free, so if this is a procedure you are considering, I cannot suggest enough to pay a visit to the Braces Bar.
FastBraces are available for adults (as in my case), teens and children. Teeth are often crooked because they didn’t come in correctly; they came into your mouth either tilted or sideways and mainly not in the upright position they need to be in, to be straight. Considering the root is crooked, FastBraces target the root right from the beginning of treatment. As the root moves upright, the tooth becomes straight. While there is no real miracle shortcut, FastBraces allows for treatment time to be cut in half compared to traditional metal braces.
Crooked teeth or a misaligned smile can affect anyone’s mood, attitude, and self-confidence, so if those are feelings you are experiencing, I can assure you that you are not alone. I often shy away from having my picture taken because I didn’t enjoy seeing my smile in those photos. With treatment being only a few weeks in, I can already see subtle changes in my teeth, and with the braces on, I already feel more confident in my appearance despite having them on. As the days have gone by, I’ve become proud to wear and show off my braces.
